St.Gallen-Lake Constance
Set against the imposing backdrop of the Alpstein massif and Mount Säntis, the St. Gallen-Lake Constance region lies in the rolling foothills of the Alps.
Here, contrasts come together to form a "strong" range of leisure and conference facilities. The historic Abbey Quarter, with its magnificent Baroque cathedral and the Abbey Library, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Buildings designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava add modern, artistic touches to St.Gallen’s historic cityscape. At the same time, St.Gallen is positioning itself as an attractive venue for conferences, events and specialist gatherings thanks to its modern conference and exhibition facilities.
The former abbey town of Wil offers another historic old town in the immediate vicinity of St.Gallen. Its flagship attraction is the Hof zu Wil, a listed building of national importance. The Rhine Valley entices visitors with exquisite wines from the region. Wine-growing has a long tradition and is as unique as the valley in the four-country border region. The rural surroundings around the city of St.Gallen are a wonderful area for walking and cycling, offering ever-changing views of the lake and mountains.
Along the shores of Lake Constance from Rorschach to Altenrhein, the lake beckons with outdoor swimming pools, water sports and fascinating museums dedicated to the themes of driving and flying. The view of Lake Constance from the plateau above Goldach and Rorschacherberg is particularly beautiful. It stretches from Untereggen eastwards to the "Steinig Tisch" above the old mouth of the Rhine. Secluded ponds and moors, as well as a number of stately castles, characterise the landscape.
