WWF Beaver Trail

The WWF Beaver Trail leads between Teufen ZH and Rüdlingen SH along the Rhine directly through the habitat of the crepuscular and nocturnal rodent.
Exciting information about the life, habitat and requirements of Europe's largest rodent is presented at a total of 10 stations (in german) along the 4 km-long riverside path. Especially attractive for children are the quiz questions, which encourage observation and discovery in a playful way. Adults can also guess along and thus test and deepen their knowledge.
Today, the beaver is recolonizing part of its original territory in the Swiss midlands. Through its diverse activities as a dam and castle builder, the beaver shapes its habitat itself and thus also creates new habitats for many animal and plant species, some of which are rare. In this way, it makes a valuable contribution to the promotion of biodiversity.
Therefore, WWF Zurich brings the public closer to the beaver and its importance for our ecosystem. In the course of a renewal in 2021, the contents of the beaver trail were revised and updated and the design was refreshed. In addition, WWF Zurich regularly organizes excursions, nature experience days and school visits on the subject of beavers.
The WWF beaver trail is located on the Rhine between the landing stages Tössegg and Rüdlingen (start possible from both sides).
