Willi Keller
Willi Keller is one of the most renowned peasant painters in the Appenzell region. While still in primary school, he met the then over 70-year-old peasant painter Johann Baptist Zeller (1877–1959), who taught him drawing and colour technique. His speciality includes painted dials for alpine clocks or bonnets of New Year's Eve climes, which no one knows how to paint in such detail as he does. None of the still active contemporary peasant painters has carried the legacy of his painting ancestors into the 21st century as seamlessly as Willi Keller.
