Weisstannen

The Weisstannental has many unique natural beauties. Natural beauty that invites you to go hiking and never ceases to amaze locals and visitors alike. Where else can you find so many waterfalls, well-tended mountain meadows and alpine pastures? Eagles and ibex are among the attractions of this lonely, beautiful region. The idyllic Weisstannental lies in the middle of the Heidiland vacation region in the largest municipality in the canton of St.Gallen (Mels). A well-maintained road leads around 12 km from the village square in Mels to Weisstannen. The valley consists of two villages or hamlets. The actual village of Weisstannen lies at 1000 m.a.s.l. and Schwendi at 900 m.a.s.l. At 2937 m.a.s.l., the mountain peak of the Grosse Schibä at the far end of the Weisstannen valley is the highest point within the municipality of Mels. It is the highest point in the municipality of Mels. There are activities for all ages here. The hiking trail between Schwendi - Weisstannen - Alp Siez also invites older people and families with children to take a leisurely stroll. But the Weisstannen valley also has a lot to offer mountain hikers. The geology of the Weisstannen valley is also worth mentioning. It is surrounded by the phenomenon of the Sardona Tectonic Arena and thus forms the gateway to the UNCESCO World Heritage Site declared in 2008.
