Wallfahrtskapelle Heiligkreuz Bernrain
The Heiligkreuz Chapel in the Kreuzlingen district of Bernrain is the first chapel on the Way of St. James, which leads from Constance to Einsiedeln. It is a popular place of pilgrimage and is also actively used as a wedding church.
In 1388, the Holy Cross Chapel Bernrain was built as a pilgrimage church. Later, a chaplain from the parish of St. Stefan in Constance worked there until 1819, when the Emmishofer Catholics broke away from the mother parish. The Bernrain chapel then became a parish church until the new church of St. Stefan was consecrated in 1903.
In the church of Bernrain is the painting with the legend of the miracle cross. According to this, a cheeky boy is said to have once made disparaging remarks about the Lord, whereupon he could no longer free his hand from the crucifix. Only when his mother and respectable people from the town promised the pilgrimage to Einsiedeln could the boy break away again.
