Theres Tobler

Theres Tobler-Manser (*1953) grew up in Steinegg near Appenzell together with six siblings. Her teacher was Dölf Mettler, peasant painter, choirmaster and composer. Today, Theres Tobler is one of the most renowned representatives of contemporary Appenzell peasant painting. She is probably the only woman to have turned her former hobby into a profession around 25 years ago. Realistic and atmospheric, Theres Tobler clearly stands in the tradition of Appenzell alpine pasture painting, which originated around the middle of the 19th century.
