Station 15 Geologiepfad Malbun: Eiszeitliche Moränen

Over the millennia, boulders fell from the surrounding rock faces onto the glacier in the Vaduz Valley. The debris was transported on the ice. Like a conveyor belt, it transported debris to its lower end and deposited it there as a moraine. This is how the terminal moraine wall was created, on which trees grow today. In addition to the terminal moraine wall, ground moraines cover the entire valley floor under the alpine pastures and ski slopes.

The Vaduz valleys – a cirque

The Vaduz valley is a cirque. It was formed by a cirque glacier, a side glacier, the Malbuntal glacier. This once flowed into the Malbuntal Glacier at a speed of a few centimeters per day and connected with it. The larger Malbuntal Glacier excavated its valley significantly deeper than the cirque glacier. Therefore, the Vaduz Valley is a higher side valley of the Mablun Valley.
