St. Leonhardskapelle

The St. Leonard's Chapel in Landschlacht is one of the oldest chapels in the Lake Constance region. It is known for its wall paintings, which date from different eras.
The St. Leonhard's Chapel is said to have been built in the 10th or 11th century on the site of an even older chapel. Since then, it has been painted with frescoes from different eras. Although subsequently broken windows destroyed some of the frescoes, the Leonhardskapelle is considered a pearl of Gothic architecture in the Lake Constance region.
The western half of the rather barren chapel is Romanesque and built of coarse field stones. The other half of the chapel is Gothic and was added at the end of the 14th century.
