Rechböhl-Kapelle Unterrain
Franziska Romana (9 March)
Brown wooden chapel above Weissbad near the road to Sonnenhalb in the courtyard of the Fässler family between Haus und Gaden.
The typical court chapel (3.0 x 3.6 m) consists of a wooden prayer house with a wrought-iron cross on the gable roof. The rectangular inner room with 12 seats is slanted on the altar side by two wooden walls. Two busts of the evangelists John and James the Elder come from the late Gothic high altar of the parish church of Appenzell and date from 1504. The Exvoto of Anthony of Padua was created in 1696. The aedicule altar in rural Rococo dates from 1766. Other pictures date from the 17th century. The chapel is decorated with sculptures and paintings of various origins can be explained by the fact that the Fässler family held political and ecclesiastical offices on the Rechböhl for decades.
History
The chapel was built in 1655 by Captain Hans Fässler. In 1766, the second wife of treasurer Johannes Fässler had the small altar in the chapel rebuilt. Under Captain Ulrich Fässler, the altar was renovated in 1827. Another renovation was carried out in 1872 by Franz Xaver Fässler. This also explains the repeated overpainting of the altarpiece.
