Pfarrkirche Brülisau

St. Sebastian (20 January)

The landmark of Brülisau is enthroned on a west-terraced complex with an open staircase in front of the mighty mountain background of Kasten and Kamor.

A high, continuous base belts all components together into a unit. The two side portals are covered by monopitch roofs. The large-scale decorative wall painting was created by Bragger. The side altars are set back. The Val Gardena wooden figures were made by Ferdinand Prinoth and J. Purger around 1881. The interior room (264 seats) has a continuous gallery (65 seats) and an organ made by Eugen Hauser, Kaltbrunn (1977). Original baptismal font in the shape of a cup. The six bells weigh a total of 5620 kg and come from J. Grassmayr in Feldkirch.

History
Brülisau had the first church in the country in addition to the main village. This was consecrated in 1478. In the 17th century, the Gothic chapel was given a tower. In 1657, Auxiliary Bishop Müller consecrated the extended baroque chapel with three altars. In 1879, the old church was demolished and a new one was built in its place in 1878/79 by Arch. Klemens  Steiner, which was consecrated on September 29, 1880 by Bishop Greith. From 1975 to 1977, Oskar Müller renovated the interior and exterior under the supervision and with funds from the Federal Commission for the Preservation of Monuments. Restoration of the furnishings by Johann Herovits. This restored the state of 1879. In 1955, a new heating system had to be installed; In 1973, the bell drive was electrified. The tower roof with tower sphere and cross was renovated in 2020.
