Museum Kunst und Wissen
The museum kunst + wissen in Diessenhofen is located in the Obere Amtshaus. The building with its striking tower and its gateway to the Rhine was built in the 16th century as the office house of the Constance Canons. Since 1657, this corner near the city wall has been called "Schwaderloch".
In the 17th and 18th centuries, an intensively used industrial area with dyeworks, tanneries and a bath room developed here. Around 1900, the industrial focus shifted to other areas, creating space for a promenade along the Rhine, which still invites you to stroll today.
The museum regularly hosts exhibitions on contemporary art, history and knowledge, as well as cultural events such as readings and small concerts.
The top floor is reserved for temporary exhibitions. Contemporary art and thematic references to the region play just as much a role in the exhibition concepts as cross-border approaches and historical contexts.
On the middle floor there is a permanent exhibition with important works by the well-known Thurgau artist Carl Roesch (1884-1979), which is constantly being replayed.
On the lowest floor is the Rotfarb, a traditional fabric dyeing and printing house from the heyday of the great manufactories in the 19th century. Here you can discover the history and development of textile art in Diessenhofen.
