Museum Appenzell

Museum of cultural history of the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden.

The Museum Appenzell is dedicated to the cultural history, the working and living world, and the social and cultural changes of Appenzell Innerrhoden. The focus is on topics related to folklore and popular everyday culture. The permanent exhibition features the once world-renowned Appenzell hand embroidery, as well as peasant and furniture painting, the emergence of tourism, and folk piety. Changing special exhibitions, along with a diverse events program, deepen and expand on these themes. The "Geissli-Pass" guides children through the museum to thematic stations, where they can paint, craft, explore, and play.

Special Exhibition
December 1, 2024 – September 7, 2025: "Forest. Pöschelibock, Waldteufel und Laubsack"
Whether as a habitat, shelter, retreat, recreational area, or supplier of raw materials – the forest is vital for life. The new special exhibition at the Museum Appenzell, "Wad. Pöschelibock, Waldteufel and Laubsack," examines the topic of the forest from a cultural-historical and folkloric perspective. It explores various aspects of traditional forest use and forest work but also presents contemporary views by artists inspired by the forest – including Ueli Alder, Marlies Pekarek, Hans Schweizer, Harlis Schweizer, Birgit Widmer, Käthi Bhend, and Pia Roshardt.
