Market town Altstätten
The markets are a popular meeting place and attract a lot of people.
Market rights have a long tradition in Altstätten. It is historically documented that in 1425 the right to the weekly market on Thursday as well as the "Maienmarkt" and "Klausmarkt" was confirmed. These markets therefore existed earlier. The market tradition lives on in the small town in the Rhine Valley. In addition to the weekly market and the farmers' market, four annual fairs are held.
Weekly market: Thursday mornings (all year round), town hall square
Farmers' market: Saturday mornings from the end of April to the end of October, Marktgasse near Frauenhof
Light fair market (fur market): on the first Thursday in February, Sun Hall
May market: on the first Thursday in May, Old Town
August fair: on the Monday after Assumption Day (August 15), Old Town
St. Nicholas Fair: on the first Thursday after December 5, Old Town
