Lower Gugelberg House

The Lower Gugelberg House in Maienfeld is a historic building with vaulted interiors and a painted paneled room. It once hosted Duke Henri de Rohan and Hortensia v. Salis, a pioneer of the women's movement.
The house displays the simple shapes typical of the time, yet it looks stately and is an important space-defining element in this location. Inside there are vaulted rooms and one of the largest vaulted cellars of the “Bündner Herrschaft” (historic name of this region). Both Duke Henri de Rohan (1579-1638) and the pioneer of the women's movement, Hortensia v. Salis, widow of v. Gugelberg (1659-1715) lived in the house.
