Lichtensteig

In the Mini.Stadt Lichtensteig, culture, nature, culinary delights and small businesses are neighbours.

Situated high above the Thur, the historic market town of Lichtensteig inspires with an exemplary preserved and lovingly restored old town centre. Narrow cobblestone alleys, high, flower-adorned arcades and romantic fountains invite you to discover and stroll.

The exemplary efforts in urban development were awarded the Wakker Prize by the Swiss Heritage Society in 2023 - a recognition of the careful handling of the historical heritage and the courageous look to the future.

Visitors to the Städtli discover four museums in a very small space: In the Gall'sche Offizin you can immerse yourself in the traditional book printing craft, in Fredy's mechanical music museum you can hear cheerful barrel organ sounds. The Toggenburg Museum conveys the history of the region, while the Toggenburg Adventure World inspires with Europe's largest 0-gauge railway system and other rarities.

The special spirit of optimism and the open, creative atmosphere are not only evident in the alleys, but also in projects such as the City Hall for Culture, the Stadtufer Cooperative or the zukunft.bahnhof foundation.

Nature enthusiasts will also get their money's worth in Lichtensteig: the Köbelisberg offers an impressive view over the whole of Toggenburg, and in the wildly romantic Äuli Gorge you almost feel like you're in another world.

For gourmets, various restaurants directly in and around the town offer a well-deserved stop. And in the Kägi shop, you can get that little bit of luck straight into your shopping basket.
