Langenegg--|Kapelle Eggerstanden

Maria Hilf (24 May)

Small chapel at the foot of the Blattenwald at the Hoher Hirschberg above the Bilchenstrasse high above Eggerstanden.

The beautifully restored chapel, fenced in by a massive iron hag, has a dimension of 3.3 × 2.8 m and bears a simple cross on the gable roof. Inside, under a vaulted wooden ceiling, there is a statue of the Mother of God on a simple altar, which was created by August lnauen. Four benches form the furniture.

History

The chapel was built on the Langenegg in 1888/89 because of an imminent danger of slipping. The need of the residents must have been enormous at that time. Since then, nothing has ever happened there in this regard. On Sunday afternoon, September 9, 1889, the chapel was consecrated by parish commissioner B. Räss from Appenzell, whose ancestors came from nearby Böhl.

In 1959, a renovation was carried out on the outside. However, the ravages of time gnawed away here as well and so in 1989, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary, an elaborate interior and exterior renovation took place. It was consecrated on May 29, 1989 by Pastor lvo Koch with the participation of over 250 believers.
