Klosterplatz St.Gallen
Large green meadow right next to the landmark of St.Gallen: the Abbey District.
Life pulsates on the Klosterplatz: people rest, picnic, have lunch, meet friends and walk the dog. Between the medieval houses and the monastery, businessmen, students, pensioners and families with prams meet. From here you have a wonderful view of the cathedral, which is worth a visit if you are already in the area. Just around the corner is another of St. Gallen's cultural attractions: the Abbey Library.
The oldest library in Switzerland, a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1983, houses the Abbey Plan of St. Gallen, the oldest surviving building plan in Europe, as well as the Egyptian mummy of Schepense, who lived from about 650 to 610 BC.
