Klosterkirche St. Ulrich
A visit to the monastery church of St. Ulrich is worthwhile not only because of the rococo decorations and the choir grille by Jakob Hoffner, but also because of the Mount of Olives Chapel.
Kreuzlingen Abbey was founded in 1125 by the Bishop of Constance, Ulrich I, in front of the city walls of Constance as an Augustinian monastery. It was first destroyed by the people of Constance because of the enemy's complicity in the Swabian War in 1499 and again in 1633 in the Thirty Years' War. For this reason, the Augustinian canons rebuilt their convent "a cannon shot further" from the city walls of Constance, where the monastery church still stands today.
After the dissolution of the monastery in 1848, the teachers' seminary (today the Pedagogical Matura School) moved into the complex. After the great fire of 1963, the monastery complex of national importance was rebuilt thanks to great support.
