Kalberhalle Lichtensteig
The Kalberhalle, right in the heart of the mini-city of Lichtensteig, is perfect for exhibitions, concerts, seminars, aperitifs or as a meeting room with its special charm.
As early as 1469, Abbot Ulrich Rösch had built a granary on the site of today's town hall. 200 years later, this was demolished. On the same site - at the end of the upper Hauptgasse - the Landvogtei was built between 1682 and 1692, with the ground floor rooms continuing to serve the Kornmarkt. In 1810, the bailiff's office became a Catholic parish and schoolhouse. After the construction of the new parity church in 1868 and the subsequent change of domicile of the pastor, the city administration moved its headquarters from the "Old Town Hall" on the Hintergasse to here. With the sale to the political community in 1868 and the change of function, decisive redesigns took place again. Among other things, the Kornmarkt had to make way for the Kälbermarkt, and an inn was built on the first floor. In 1952 there was another renovation. The "Freihof", one of the oldest houses in Lichtensteig, located on the western side of the town hall, was demolished and a new market hall was built. On this occasion, the stone staircase was built on the north side, which has since led to the 1st floor.
In 2017, the Kalberhalle underwent extensive renovation, so that today it can be offered as an attractive venue with a special charm.
