A little more than a thousand meters above sea level, surrounded by meadows and forests, here stands the Hirschen Forest. A stately inn in the friendly Appenzellerland.A self-evident cheerful hospitality, a well-kept cuisine that the owners take care of themselves. All this is part of the tradition in the Hirschen Forest. The two cosy dining rooms, the 250-year-old wall buffet, the old wood-fired oven, they know how to tell about it. Here you can celebrate the festivals as they fall.The hotel rooms at the Hirschen, tastefully furnished, are bright and comfortable. Each has a shower/WC and TV. In each of them it is rural, quiet. And from the windows, every guest sees their own piece of Appenzell. In 2022, we renovated most of the rooms.In the old oven, baking is still done almost every day. For three generations, the Hirschen has smelled of fresh bread and the small, well-known pastries. They are made according to carefully guarded family recipes.Hiking trails literally pass by the Hirschen's front door. They lead over hills, through forests, cross-country. And more than that, they lead imperceptibly out of the hustle and bustle, the stress, past a shady tree, past a remote farmstead, further and further into silence. It is not far to Lake Constance, the town of Appenzell, or up into the Alpstein. St. Gallen, with its museums, its cinemas and its theatre, is also within easy reach.The Mettler family is looking forward to welcoming guests to their house.

Events information

For larger groups of 10 to 60 people, we have a spacious hall. The hall can be divided into 2 smaller rooms with a partition wall. Ideal for parties of 10 to 30 people. Depending on the occasion, we offer a screen with projector, aperitif on the terrace, space for live music, private access directly from the outside, etc. There is free wifi throughout the house. The hall has windows on three sides and offers a wonderful view over the hills of the Appenzellerland.
