Ebenalp

The sun terrace of the Alpstein
The Ebenalp is the ideal starting point for hikes in the impressive Alpstein. This is where the Appenzellerland shows its very special side. Gentle alpine meadows, rugged rock formations and magnificent vantage points.
From the Ebenalp mountain station, a short hike leads on the well-developed path through the Wildkirchli caves. Prehistoric finds and traces of cave bears make the caves a unique experience. The path also leads past the well-known Gasthaus Aescher.
In winter, the small but fine winter sports area offers varied slopes in all levels of difficulty for the whole family.
To the cable car:
Since 1955, the cable car between Wasserauen (868 m above sea level) and Ebenalp (1644 m above sea level) has transported up to 200,000 visitors a year.
From Wasserauen, guests can take the state-of-the-art cable car to Ebenalp within six minutes. The gondola starts every 15 minutes and can transport up to 40 people. A large car park is available right next to the valley station of the cable car. The terminus of the Appenzell Railways is also located there.
