Bommer Weiher
The Bommer Weiher are "among the most beautiful of what still exists in Thurgau of this kind". The Thurgau government once stated this. If you have the time to visit the ponds, you will be able to experience the charm and ambience of this unique landscape.
The Bommer Weiher are located in a gentle hollow north of the hamlet of Bommen near Alterswilen. They were probably artificially created around 1460 primarily for the purpose of using water power for mills. In addition, they may also have played a not insignificant role as fishing grounds. Threatened by excessive siltation, they had to be renovated in 1979.
Today, the Bommer Weiher are a popular local recreation area at any time of the year. The entire pond area is now a nature reserve and is an important habitat for waterfowl and amphibians.
