Blumenrain-|Kapelle Appenzell
St. Michael (29 September)
The chapel is somewhat hidden on the north side of Blumenrainstrasse.
The devotional chapel measures 3.2 x 3.7 m and has a rather steep saddle roof covered with tiles. A beautiful wrought-iron cross forms the end. Inside there are two side benches and a colour printed picture of St. Michael. The chapel is closed.
History
It is known that Uli Tailer, Landtmann of Appenzell, replaced a picture house next to his house with the construction of a chapel in 1612. Because the house at that time was small and bad, Tailer was concerned that it could have been demolished after his death. Therefore, on 16 October 1612, he had ordered that the picture house must be maintained by the owner of the estate for all eternity. In 1722, the chapel was replaced by a new building. According to the year above the entrance, it was almost completely renovated again in 1861, which is why the external shape no longer corresponds to that of the earlier chapel.
Around 1930, the Chapeli was overhauled with a modern plaster in gray color. In 1998/99 it had to be renovated, especially the roof.
