Blockwandmalereien

A cycle of rural Renaissance paintings in Sidwald, Neu St. Johann.

Block wall paintings in private houses from the 16th century are sparsely preserved. We mainly know religious wall paintings in monasteries and chapels. The block wall painting in the Sidwald is a special find. The chamber has been included in the list of national objects worthy of protection and is a listed building. All walls and ceiling are painted. The main image – the couple – is a rice runner and a woman greeting him. A hunter is depicted with a book, sauspit and dog team, and the east wall is painted with a large mounted dragon.
