Bahn zum Säntis

In 2012, the Appenzell-Wasserauen railway line celebrated its 100th birthday. This route was the first stage of the ambitious project for a railway via Meglisalp to the Säntis. Today's mountain hiking trail leads along the route planned at the time. However, the railway to the Säntis was never built because funds became scarce due to the outbreak of the First World War. Display boards along the way remind us of the pioneering idea.
