Anker-Kapelle Hintergonten
Holy Cross (4 September)
Small beautifully restored chapel at the entrance to the campsite in Jakobsbad.
The chapel is the oldest example of the rectangular prayer house in lnnerrhoden dated to the building itself. Unfortunately, the situation is quite limited by the campsite. The small chapel (2.7 x 3.4 m) is covered with larch shingles and has a turret with a copper roof. The inner is decorated with a hipped field ceiling. The floor consists of large stone slabs. The eponymous painted crucifix is a peasant carving in Renaissance forms from the first half of the 17th century and forms the altarpiece. Next to it are the statues of Mary and Joseph with the baby Jesus in their arms. In the turret hangs a bell with a diameter of 29 cm with the tone "e". Two small benches form the seating. The bell is controlled by radio with an electric drive so that it rings daily at 12.00 noon and in the event of an impending thunderstorm. The chapel is closed.
History
"In 1692, Uli Signer, Hansen blessed son gsin, bequeathed 2 batzen to the chapel", which proves its existence for the 17th century. Since that time, it has been called Hugenwees Brülis beim Heilig Kreuz. According to oral tradition, the chapel goes back to a promise if flooding and devastation by the nearby stream do not occur. Johann Signer, caretaker of the Holy Cross Chapel, died in 1775. Above the entrance is the year 1889 with a baroque decoration on the sides as an indication of a renovation. During the renovation of 1969, a painted over date 1771 came to light on the arched door. In 2002, the chapel was completely renovated and a new roof with a turret was built.
