Adalbert Fässler

Adalbert Fässler was born in Appenzell in 1959. He learned the trade in his parents' workshop. In 1986 he worked as a freelance restorer at the Basel Sports Museum. From 1989 to 1992 he attended the School of Design in Lucerne, where he worked as an assistant from 1992 to 1994.

Since then, he has combined the craft and artistic professions. He runs his workshop in Appenzell and manufactures belts, dog bands, suspenders and all alpine articles, restores "tafeene" (figureheads), Landsgemeinde swords as well as secular and ecclesiastical objects. His artistic training enables him to freely implement ideas brought to him. All desired motifs and themes are drawn and implemented by him as belts, buckles and emblems.

In the artistic field, too, he is not limited to one genre: he paints and draws and works sculpturally. The stage design for the medieval spectacle in Appenzell on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of the Battle of the Stoss in 2005 falls under his direction.
