Thayngen pile dwelling

The pile dwelling near the most important Stone Age archaeological sites.

Alongside other prehistoric sites in the Thayngen-Reiat area, the Kesslerloch cave and the Weier pile dwelling settlement are among the most important Stone Age archaeological sites in Europe.

For this reason, a replica pile dwelling was erected near these sites. The Natural History

Museum in Bern originally had it built for a pile dwelling exhibition. After the exhibition ended, the municipality of Thayngen took over the building in spring 2015. About 200 metres away there is a barbecue area with a slide.

A tip for school classes: Steinzeit aktiv (steinzeit-aktiv.ch) offers various opportunities to experience the Stone Age up close.
