Kastanienwald Murg
The largest chestnut forest north of the Alps - a unique natural area with old trees, young stands and a rich variety of chestnuts.
The chestnut forest above the village stretches impressively towards the Murg Valley and is one of the largest contiguous stands north of the Alps. Between ancient, gnarled trees, young plantations and specially planted stands for timber production, the sweet chestnut can be seen in all its facets. The freshly planted Selve and the natural regeneration areas reflect the efforts to preserve and sustainably use this unique habitat. Especially in the fall, from around mid-September to mid-October, the aromatic scent of ripe chestnuts fills the air and numerous shiny fruits can be found on the forest floor. The Murgbach gorge with its waterfall rushes through the middle of this wild and romantic forest - a natural experience of rare originality. Between the trees, you will discover artistically crafted wooden sculptures that bring the forest to life. Information boards provide fascinating facts about the history, significance and management of this special chestnut forest, which is equally valuable for humans and animals.
