Gebiet Foostock und Foopass

The Foostock and Foopass area offers an impressive view of Piz Sardona, Piz Segnes, and the Tschingelhörner. The Glarus Thrust is particularly well visible here, making it a popular destination for those interested in geology.

Rarely is the Glarus Thrust as well exposed and clearly visible as on the eastern and southern sides of the Foostock. Due to erosion, the thrust has already been removed at the Foopass, which is why Arnold Escher, in the mid-19th century, depicted the Glarus double fold ending here. The intense, decades-long controversy over the Glarus double fold made the Foopass a mecca for geologists. From the Foopass, there is a magnificent view of Piz Sardona, Piz Segnes, and the Tschingelhörner, where the Glarus Thrust is especially well visible.
