Exhibition "BergeBeben - BergeStürzen"

The Sardona World Heritage Visitor Center in Vättis offers insights into the Sardona Tectonic Arena. The exhibition MountainsQuake-MountainsFall showcases the dynamics of the Alps and the effects of earthquakes and rockfalls.

Insight into the UNESCO World Heritage Site Tectonic Arena Sardona

The visitor center in the former Alpine School Vättis offers exciting insights into the Tectonic Arena Sardona and is the ideal starting point for an informative day trip to the Tamina Valley or for hiking and biking tours.
In addition to the permanent exhibition “BergeBeben-BergeStürzen” (Mountain Quakes and Mountain Collapses), visitors will find an exhibition on the prehistoric Drachenloch cave and learn much more about the impressive mountain landscape, which was designated a World Heritage Site in 2008.

Exhibition “BergeBeben-BergeStürzen”
Earthquakes and rockfalls occur regularly in the Sardona World Heritage region. They are important signs that the formation of the mountains is far from complete. The Alps are in constant motion. Every year, they are raised and eroded by a few millimeters. The smallest earth movements can be experienced live in the exhibition in Vättis using a seismograph.

Of all the rockfalls known to us in Switzerland, the four largest occurred in the Sardona World Heritage region. The exhibition impressively shows the destruction and suffering caused by the rockfalls around the Sardona tectonic arena. On the other hand, such natural events constantly reshape our landscape, creating new habitats for plants and animals.
