Aerial Cableway from Iltios to Chäserrugg

Mountain cableway to the summit, with cabins designed by Herzog & de Meuron and Studio Noun

The Iltios – Chäserrugg aerial cableway operates year-round, offering guests a comfortable journey to and from the easternmost summit of the seven Churfirsten peaks. During the ride, the view sweeps across the Toggenburg landscape and the Alpstein region, providing a fascinating perspective of the northern façade of the summit building. With a bit of luck, chamois can often be spotted on the rocky ledges along the way, and the various geological layers of the mountainside come clearly into view.

At the top, visitors will find the Chäserrugg Summit Restaurant, where culinary delights are harmoniously combined with the architecture of Herzog & de Meuron. Just next to the summit lies the Rosenboden plateau, home to the panoramic circular trail that can be explored both in summer and winter. It offers stunning views of more than 500 mountain peaks across six countries, Lake Walen, and the surrounding alpine scenery.

In winter, Chäserrugg also boasts the longest downhill run in the Obertoggenburg region.

In June 2023, the cableway received two new cabins, designed in collaboration with architects Herzog & de Meuron and Studio Noun, enhancing the guest experience with refined aesthetics and thoughtful design.
